AI Tools for Design: From Idea to Impact

On 25 September I am hosting a hands-on workshop during Zurich Design Weeks, together with the Swiss Design Association, at Maison Shift in Zürich.

My background is in industrial and product design. I studied Industrial Design at FADU in Buenos Aires and completed my MA in Product Design at ZHdK in Zürich.

Since then my work has moved between physical products, materials, spatial experiences, visual storytelling and creative direction. Through Tanya Rey Studio I work with companies and creative teams on how emerging technologies, and AI in particular, enter a design process without displacing the human perspective behind it.

This is also where Hybrid Thinking comes from.

For me, AI is not about generating an image in a few seconds. I am interested in what happens when design thinking, intuition, physical experimentation and new digital tools start working together.

I use AI at different points in my own process.

To explore directions before committing to one.

To visualise ideas that would otherwise take days to communicate.

To test materials, environments and product scenarios.

To build stronger narratives around a concept.

To move between image, object, motion and physical production.

And to create more space for experimentation.

During the workshop I open up this process and share real examples from the studio.

We look at how an idea develops from a first visual exploration into something with direction, meaning and a possible application.

We also work hands-on with different AI tools and approaches, looking at where they help, where they do not, and how to keep your own creative language throughout the process.

You do not need to be an AI expert to join.

The goal is to understand where these tools sit inside your own way of thinking and designing, and to leave with methods you can apply to your projects the following week.
