CH.AI.R, Zurich Design Week

A chair designed in dialogue between AI and traditional craft, exploring what it means to design with machines and what remains unmistakably human.

CH.AI.R is a project that explores the meeting point between artificial intelligence and traditional craftsmanship in furniture design. Using generative algorithms as a creative partner rather than a replacement, the project produces chair designs that are both structurally considered and aesthetically alive.

Exhibited at Zurich Design Week and the Museum für Gestaltung, CH.AI.R opened a conversation about authorship, process, and the role of human judgment in AI-assisted making. The work asks: when a machine proposes a form, what does the designer bring?

The answer, in this case, is selection, material understanding, craft knowledge, and the ability to recognize when something is not just beautiful but right.
